Title: Traineeship pay 2
Post by snooks on Aug 9th, 2005 at 2:19pm
Query for a friend - can a firm tell its trainees that they are not going to give a 2nd year pay increase until a couple of months into the second year on the basis of its own "business needs"? Surely not? The trainees are currently on 12k, well below the new recommended min even for a 1st yr.

Some firms really take the wee. Would appreciate advice.

I don't think that's right but the gospel on this is the Law society.

If her pay generally is above their 2nd year rate and she has no contractual right to an increase then you could have difficulties.

Another common trick is to delay upping the 2nd year pay to that of an NQ for a while once you qualify.
