Title: Summer Placements
Post by Big-PeteyM on Aug 25th, 2005 at 9:35pm

Looking for some advice from you trainees, I have just finished 2nd year bout to start 3rd (hon) and over the summer have had a three month placement with a medium/large law firm. I am looking at making plans for next summer. I hvae found this company that offer volunteer placements abroad (like mini gap years) and have found a project i would be extremely interested in doing. My question is, is a summer placement with a firm worth more at interview etc. than a 10 week volunteer project abroad which i would have to do fundraising etc. for?
Any help be appreciated cheers.

A 10 week volunteer project is worth more but sometimes a summer placement makes you more likely to get an interview.

My advice is go with the 10 week gap project and have a great summer!  Oh, and set your sites above the medium sized firms - you may get more opportunities to travel in your career in the larger, UK-wide firms.
