Title: private car purchase
Post by junerid on Feb 15th, 2008 at 11:32am
This is actually advice for my son. He is thinking about going to see a solicitor, but I have my doubts that anything can be done about what has happened. I would just like some advice as to whether he should go ahead or is he just wasting more money.
Thanks for any advice you can provide.

bought a car, private sale Newport, Fife, four months ago 6000. car has since become undriveable. was advertised on iternet, i still have copy of advert saying car had engine replaced etc etc. do i have any rights against the person selling me a car not roadworthy? He also sold it to me with no road tax on it.

Its the old case of "Buyer Beware".

Private sale so the Sale of Goods Act does not apply. I'm afraid your son has no recourse to the seller.
