I qualified in England, ages ago, and then left the profession to bring up my kids. By choice, strangely, I am once again studying - aiming to requalify in Scots law and am genning up (alone, at home, with the study materials) to sit the Intra UK Trnsfer Test in March 08. I shan't need to do the EC law paper. I wonder if anyone has experience of Papers l and ll (Conveyancing, Trusts and Succession; and Civil and Criminal Evidence and Procedure)? I am just a bit out of it all, studying on my own, and so any advice or comments on the severity of the exams would help. Does anyone know, positive thinking aside, whether the failure rate is high??

Hi, yes, I think the clt study guides are helpful - I'll soon know how helpful! They are lighter reading than some textbooks tho' of course this probably  means we don't have the depth of knowledge and doubtless not as strong a foundation as law lectures and seminars were. Nevertheless,if we are studying alone, they cover the ground quite approachably.
 
From March 08, when I will sit them, the exams are "open book" - a new concept to me but, having spoken to Treena Jobson at the Law Soc of Scotland about this , she seems to think it will make our life easier as the exams haven't changed in structure nor in what they demand of us. Way to go!
 
Encouraging to hear someone else is ploughing away to qualify in Scots law - I don't think there's a plethora of us!

My experience is quite different as I haven't been practising for a long while so am less knowledgeable than you and so have less to "forget"!  
Are you looking at old exam papers? I can send you copies, or you can get them from the law soc scotland at £1 a shot. I would help with the clt study materials too but logistically can't see how it can be done - there are about 1800 pages of notes!  
 
Before you panic, I would say that the majority of the material is written quite simply and even chattily! There are refs to statutes and case law but as yet I have just been reading within the study material, and haven't done wmuch wider reading (time restraints). God knows if it'll be enough and I can't face the idea of failure!! So, coming at the exams from different approaches, you and i. I am sure you will be fine as your current experience will help rather than hinder, I think.

I`ve been working in london for 10 years and thinking of moving to scotland ( where my wife`s from) at the end of this year - so need to get these exams.

If anyone's asking the same question but about Scotland to England, then yes it is easily possibly to do the QLTT and manage your existing workload at the same time.
