hi rach  Smiley,

just thought I'd say hi - I'm doing the LLB p/t at strathclyde in sept as well, altho probably wont see you.  I have heard very good things abt the law clinic and think its worthwhile as welll as good experience, but I'm just surmising.

How are you feeling abt starting the course?  have you done law before? Are you doing any preparation before starting?

its nice to make contact with someone also going to strathclyde

Hi Joannie!

Yes, nice to hear from someone in the same boat!!  I am really looking forward to starting as i have just been working for the last year since graduation and can't wait to get my teeth stuck into the course!  Saying that i have heard and can imagine it is a LOT of work!  I haven't done any law before so am going in a bit blind.  Have you studied it before?

I have a few introduction to Scots law books i have been skimming through, but i think i will have a good read of them before we start.  It would be nice to have at least a faint idea of what is going on!

What about you? Are you looking forward to it?  What did you study before?

Rach

Hi rach,

I am a mature student (!), did social work before (1st degree English) and now am involved in the childrens hearing system.  I have studied some law ages ago but most of it is not immediately relevant and also out of date.  I am reading MacQueen's Studying Scots Law which is helpful, also read McBride's Letters to a Law Student which I really enjoyed, because of his great style of writing.  I have another one, The Scots Legal System, cant remember the author offhand but looks very heavygoing Shocked so have put that to one side for just now!  What about you?  Have you any that look helpful?  I went to the Univ bookshop in the summer for advice/help but they were useless and I was a bit disappointed.  I am looking forward to it, especially the Lectures, but I do keep getting the jitters every so often - will I be up to it, how much work will there be, will I find my way round the library(!) and exams OMG! so just normal anticipation I guess  Roll Eyes

what are you working at?  Are you having a break before you start? Do you know others that are going?

Hey you two!!
Your gonna love it!! A good and really easy to read is Busby 'intro to scots law' - my advice would be to try and not to buy lots of books but to pick them up second hand or from the library! You tend only to use them for a semester and depending on what you want to specialise in you might never pick them up again.  As long as you keep on top of the weekly reading you'll be fine!

good luck to both of you! Wink
