does the LLB have an expiry date?
Jul 14th, 2009, 10:55am

Hi
I wondered if the LLB has an expiry date and secondly, how it is looked upon if an LLB graduate has another career for a few years (maybe 5) and then returns to do the diploma and traineeship. At this moment in my life, I do not want to do the diploma, which looks incredibly boring or a traineeship, the majority of which also look boring. However, at some point in the future it may be beneficial for me to return and qualify or I might change my mind.

Thanks

No, I don't think there is an expiry date. However, you would probably have to show for the purposes of getting a place on the diploma and then a traineeship that you have kept your knowledge of the law up to date. This is just because in the space of 5 years which you are talking about, the law will have changed a massive amount.

I'm not sure if this rule still applies but it used to be the case that you had ten years after getting an Llb to do the diploma after which you have to start again. Check with the Law Society and they will keep you right.

Hi

Fair point, which i tend to agree with, as I'm in a similar position. Got a place to do the diploma this year for the pricely sum of £4200, but with no funding, am inclined not to bother.
Does the diploma need to be done, or did there not used to be a law society exam after a period of years had elapsed after graduating with the LLB?
