Private Car Park Ticketing
May 16th, 2007 at 5:14pm

Hi, I am wondering if charges issued by private ticketing companies, such as Central Ticketing, are legal in Scottish Law? They opperate based on the Trespass Law, does this apply in Scotland?  If so is there any control on the amount that they can charge offenders and who sets the limits if there are any?

Obviously have just got a ticket today as I parked in a private residents car park.  There were signs up to say that you needed a permit and fairs fair I parked there anyway so I guess it's my own fault.  I am curious though, and concerned that anyone might be able to set up in this business.  I can see why private residents need to take this action but feeling a wee bit sorry for myself as I was the only car in the car park so I was not preventing anyone from parking there car  Sad

Many Thanks, Pete

They do indeed seem to be legal.  See www.scotcourts.gov.uk/opinions/sc514.html
